Summer is winding down, fall will be here before you know it and that means waterfowl seasons are just around the corner. In some areas early goose seasons have already begun. If you haven’t started yet now is the time to practice up on your calling, shooting skills and gather all your gear.
You’ll want to pattern your shotgun and find the shells and loads that shoot best through your gun. You can also try different chokes for your gun to find the one that patterns best. Knowing how your gun shoots is a great way to start out a successful waterfowl season.
It’s also a great time to throw some clays and make sure you can catch up to some moving targets. There are lots of different angles to work on. Those fast crossing ducks can be hard to catch up to.
Don’t forget to check over all of your gear. Much better to find a leak in your waders now when the water is in the 70’s than when it’s nearly freezing! Go through your decoys and make sure everything is ready to go.
Get out there and find some locations to hunt. Water levels change year to year and you may have to make a few adjustments to put yourself in the best spot to harvest some ducks.
