(Plymouth, Minn.) — Across Minnesota, there are youth who excel in the outdoor arena and demonstrate leadership qualities to stand as role models for other youth. As a young man who grew up involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, the August 2016 Outdoor Youth of the Month, – as chosen by Outdoor News and Clam Outdoors – Jonathan Miranda, went on to serve as a volunteer lifeguard for the Boy Scouts in Minnesota for three years. Through his volunteerism, other youth could enjoy the experiences that helped shape his life through scouting.
Miranda is now college bound, with a $250 cash award from Clam Outdoors in his pocket, plus a matching $250 cash award is going to Mustang Boy Scout Troop 290 thanks to the generosity of Clam Outdoors.
Staff from Outdoor News and Clam selected Miranda after receiving nominations from readers identifying Minnesota students in grades 7-12 who demonstrate leadership or excellence in the outdoor pursuits including: habitat restoration efforts, archery, the shooting sports, or mentored fishing and hunting programs. The co-sponsors are seeking nominations for the September 2016 recipient.
Read a biography of Miranda’s experiences as a team member shooting on the Hopkins Clay Crushers trap squad near his Hopkins, Minn., home through the Minnesota High School Clay Target League and his plans for the future in the August 19, 2016 issue of Minnesota Outdoor News (Page 28).
Additionally, as the youth selected to receive the Outdoor Youth of the Month, Miranda will receive a $250 in merchandise from Clam Outdoors, in addition to a plaque, and a subscription to Outdoor News.
