The first Student Angler Ice Fishing Federation national high school ice fishing championship is scheduled Dec. 29-30 on Lake Mille Lacs.
A youth division of the North American Ice Fishing Circuit, the SAIFF championship is open to the first 100 two-person high school teams. As this is the first year of competition, there will be no qualifying, but student anglers must be a member of the SAIFF. Membership fee is $25, but there is no tournament entry fee.
High school anglers will vie for any 16-fish combination of crappies, bluegills, and/or perch per day (total weight for both days).
Hosted by McQuoid's Resort, the tournament will also include several seminars on topics including sponsorships, media and how to be a tournament angler.
