(Plymouth, Minn.) — When he set out to earn his Eagle Scout rank, 15-year-old Brian Amundson of Sartell, Minn., knew he wanted to develop something that would benefit other youth in the area of archery. This focus led to the development of a significant Archery Range at Mississippi River County Park in north-central Minnesota that boasts 11 targets at ranges from 10 yards to 80 yards, with a shooting station for each of the targets.
When staff from Outdoor News and Clam Outdoors selected Amundson for the December Outdoor Youth of the Month recognition, it was clear that this 9th grader demonstrated through his scout project the very skills and attitude the award honors. Amundson was among the nominations submitted by Outdoor News readers identifying students in grades 7-12 who demonstrate leadership or excellence in the outdoor pursuits including: habitat restoration efforts, archery, the shooting sports, or mentored fishing and hunting programs.
Through the Outdoor Youth of the Month partnership, Clam Outdoors will award Amundson with a $250 cash award and $250 in merchandise, in addition to a plaque, and a subscription to Outdoor News. Fittingly, Amundson’s local Boy Scout Troop, #211 from Sartell, Minn., will receive a $250 cash award from Clam Outdoors.
